Police have arrested three people, who were found near the car, and have been trying to identify a fourth.
At about 11.15pm, the driver of a Holden Commodore station wagon failed to stop for a random breath test on the Princes Highway at Wandandian.
Police started a pursuit, travelling north before turning right onto the Wool Road, Basin View.
The driver then attempted to turn into Tallyan Point Road but lost control, hit a gutter and slid into an embankment.
Four people ran from the car, with a 20-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl arrested nearby. The fourth person could not be found.
A short time later, the station wagon caught alight and was destroyed.
Fire fighters arrived and extinguished the blaze which had spread to surrounding grassland.
The cause of the fire is still being examined but police believe it was a result of the crash.
The three people arrested were taken to Nowra Police Station and have since been released pending further inquiries.
Police are also working to identify the fourth person who ran from the vehicle.
They encourage anyone who knows the person’s identity or has information about the incident to come forward.
