This important issue should be thoroughly discussed in the community.
The Parliamentary Working group on Assisted Dying is conducting consultations to give people an opportunity to find out about the proposed legislation and to voice their opinions on it.
A consultation is being held at 2pm next Saturday, August 12 at St Georges Basin Country Club at Sanctuary Point.
I urge anyone interested in voluntary assisted dying to attend the consultation.

To Shorten’s advantage
A popular view is that to remove Malcolm Turnbull as Prime Minister would guarantee defeat and the opposing view is that to keep him as leader may destroy the conservative brand.
Bill Shorten is a stark reminder that the first rung on the electoral ladder is to get elected.
Not being your party’s preferred leader guarantees that Shorten must continue to make outlandish and aspirational statements regardless of their veracity.
The mob are angry and hungry and no number of mealy mouthed motherhood statements will they accept, so upwards and onwards Bill Shorten with your tactic of class warfare and aspirational inequality.
Why would he not take this tack as the polls suggest the mob are buying it?

Business success story
Last month I attended the 50th anniversary celebrations for a small business which has become part of the furniture down the main street of Ulladulla, Burcher Services Proprietary or BSP Advisory.
It is such a boon for the Ulladulla community to have successful small businesses such as BSP Advisory who not only provide their services and employ people in the area, but believe it’s their job to support local community organisations.
BSP Advisory employs 14 people in the region and proudly sponsors local organisations such as Mollymook Surf Lifesaving Club, Ulladulla Cricket Club and many others.
One of the most surprising aspects of BSP Advisory, which I only found out recently, is that they have spread their wings to Melbourne and Brisbane with a number of staff at each location, as well as internationally to the Philippines where they have two staff.
As a former small business owner I understand how hard it can be at times to make ends meet.
I’m sure the trials and sacrifices the owners and staff at BSP Advisory have endured in the past makes the 50 year celebrations all the more sweet.
I wish to congratulate BSP Advisory on their 50th anniversary and I wish them all the best for the future.

Paying for others’ super
Late in October 2016, 50.4 per cent of the government owned utility Ausgrid was privatised for the sole purpose of financing superannuation funds.
The successful bidders: IFM Investors, which invests on behalf of 29 domestic superannuation funds, and Australian Super, which says it holds the pensions of one in six working Australians.
The fact that every electricity bill paid is propping up somebody’s retirement prospects does not seem right to me.

Leave it be
I am totally against the name change of Burrill Lake bridge. The bridge is synonymous, with the family who were instrumental in the establishment of the area, and as such, we and the powers to be, should respect our history, and just as importantly, stop wasting taxpayers’ money, and use it for more infrastructure projects.
