On Saturday, August 5 the brigade will host the Australian Red Cross blood van as part of the ‘Emergency Services Blood Challenge’.
The challenge is run from June 1 to August 31 and sees the winter, police, fire services, ambulance services and the SES compete to give the most blood donations during the Emergency Services Blood Challenge 2017.
Last year, they made 8,145 donations altogether. Since each donation saves up to three lives, that’s up to 24,400 lives saved.
The well-known van will be set up from 10 to 1pm. Everyone is encouraged to come along and make a life-saving donation.
Bookings are now being taken for appointments. Contact 0423 401 755 to make your booking.
On Thursday, August 27 the brigade will open its doors and those of the next door SES building to the local deaf and hard of hearing community.
More than 100 people will be given a tour of the facilities.
The initiative is supported by Shoalhaven police, ambulance services, Fire and Rescue and the Australian Red Cross.
Members of the public are also invited to attend.
The tour will run from 10am until after midday. Contact 0423 401 735 for more information about the event.
An Open Day will be held on Saturday, September 16 to give people all the top tips on how to get ready for the upcoming fire season.
Some of the topics discussed will be what to do if a bushfire threatens your home and how to prepare your home and get it ready for fire season.
Learning how to understand the bushfire alert levels in the local area and how to keep all the bushfire information numbers, websites and the smartphone app on hand will be part of the Open Day’s discussion.
A raffle will be held on the day.
The West Nowra Rural Fire Brigade is located at 92 Albatross Road, Nowra.
