League-leaders Gerringong continued their march towards the minor-premiership, putting five goals past Shoalhaven United in a 5-nil rout at Gerringong Oval.

Breakers head coach Jadon Lavington said his team, who had five different goal scorers – Robert Franks, Andrew Lockard, Luke Nolan, Jake Packham and Kane Rowe, were happy to return to the winner’s circle following last week’s draw with Culburra.

“The boys played great and it was particularly good to keep a clean sheet,” Lavington said.

“Although United were undermanned, with a number of reserves backing up, we got the job done.”

Hot on the heels of the Breakers are Bomaderry, who also easily won on Saturday, smashing Milton 5-1 at Bomaderry Oval.

“I thought we played well and controlled the game from the outset – scoring in the first four minutes before creating plenty of other opportunities,” Tigers coach Nathan Aldridge said.

“Milton tried hard all day and scored a really nice goal but the game was all but over.

“Overall it was a strong team performance, with Brendan Kellett the standout with a hat-trick, while Daniel Frew and Chris Reminus also scored nice goals.”

With third-placed Culburra having the bye, it was imperative that Illaroo secured all three points, to stay in touch with the leaders – a task they achieved with flying colours.

Andrew Timbs’ men defeated Sussex 8-3, thanks to goals from Hayden Strand (two), Davo Aulsebrook (two), Josh Woods (two), Tomas Giddings and Evan Leedham.

“It was great to see us finally take some of our chances and overall pretty happy, despite conceding the three goals,” Timbs said.

“Sussex led 1-nil early but once we found our feet, I knew we had them.

“We took the foot off the pedal in the second half, which was a bit disappointing but it’s hard to keep going when you’re winning like that.”

Sitting in fifth are Huskisson, who are still well and truly in the hunt for finals, after a highly entertaining 6-5 victory against Shoalhaven Heads-Berry.

“It was a great result for the club on Saturday, with all three grades winning, which included plenty of goals being scored,” Huskisson coach Rob Hawker said.

“The first grade game was not the sort of game you want to be a coach for, when your season is on the line.

“We started very strong but then switched off for the rest of the half and got punished for it.

“Credit to the boys though, they went out and did the job in the second half.

“The game went right down to the last few minutes though, so we were pretty lucky to get the result.”

In the win, the goals were scored by Gary Neimeier (hat-trick), Lachlan Ford, Brendon Hiriart and Adam Quinn.

The final game saw Manyana defeat Basin 2-nil.
