RELATED About Safe Shelter Shoalhaven
THE reason why a group of businessmen want to support the homeless is simple - they are concerned members of the community.
Sandy Wilson, along with Chris and Ben Hobbs have all gone out of there way to support Safe Shelter Shoalhaven which was set up to provide somewhere for the homeless to stay in Nowra.*
Sandy Wilson has been a businessman in the region for 30 years and started Shoalhaven Recycling.
He said the time had come to give something back to the community and help the less fortunate.
Mr Wilson said the community and Shoalhaven Council had been good to his business.
“We just need to give something back and I believe this is a good cause and will help some homeless people,” he said.
Mr Wilson met recently with Pastor Peter Dover, who helped set up the shelter, and was impressed with what he heard.
He is confident if a challenge is put out that other businesses will come onboard and provide financial support.
Ben Hobbs, who now runs Shoalhaven Recycling, has already become one of the major supporters of the shelter.
Pastor Dover said the trio had helped the shelter enormously.
“Ben has brought Sandy and Chris onboard and they are all financial partners,” Pastor Dover said.
“What this trio has done is they purchased all the beds, the televisions, the fridges and freezers and provided the linen to set up the Safe Shelters . Then they have provided the food which gets delivered every Wednesday.
“This is all adds up to thousands and thousands of dollars.”
Ben Hobbs said they had supported other charities in the past but decided they wanted to do something that would help a local problem.
“I think people where and when they are able to should support the homeless,” he said.
He had been to the shelter and was impressed with the setup.
Chris Hobbs from C&S Tree Services said he was also happy to support the cause.
“There is an issue here in the Shoalhaven that we all need to address,” Chris Hobbs said.

*The trio did not approach the South Coast Coast Register - we decided their efforts should be acknowledged.
