The community-minded quietly spoken Ice, from Mollymook, is a familiar face on beaches across Shoalhaven and is a respected employee of the Australian Lifeguard Service.
Ice is highly regarded among his peers and this is evident in both his dealings with fellow lifeguards and the wider public.
Ice has become something of a mentor to the rookie lifeguards, always ready to share his knowledge and experiences, as they take their first tentative steps into the professional lifeguard world.
His ability to identify beach hazards and communicate these issues to the public are a hallmark of his patrolling technique.
He has made significant contributions to the community off the beach and it is this selfless attitude which endears him to his peers.
Ice and his family are the instigators of the Mollymook Mountains to Sea Marathon which has raised almost 15,000 dollars to support local children who have been hospitalised across Sydney with a variety of medical conditions.
Shoalhaven supervisor Ken Walsh said this recognition is well deserved for a man who always has the community’s interest at heart.
“Ice is a very talented lifeguard and a valued employee of the ALS with a strong work ethic and professional attitude,” Walsh said.
“He is what one would call a quiet achiever and is content to get on with the job of being a lifeguard – a profession that he is highly competent at.”
