The man who advocated for a “life-saving” stroke unit at Shoalhaven Hospital said that his work here is far from done.
Ulladulla’s Daryll Cook has joined the campaign for a permanent neurologist at the hospital, led by Councillor Nina Cheyne.
“It goes without question, in this day and age, such a specialist has to be there on a permanent basis,” Mr Cook said.
“We’ve been lagging behind.
“Obviously there's a tremendous need for such a specialist to be based at the stroke unit.
“It shouldn’t be a battle or begging exercise, it should be nearly automatic with the population we have.”
Shoalhaven Council estimated in 2015 the local population will reach 100,000 next year.
He said a wide cross section of the community’s affected by head trauma conditions, including young people who play sport.
A permanent neurologist would benefit these people.
The issue will be raised at a Parkinsons forum, among more than 400 people who have confirmed their attendance at Bomaderry Bowling Club on September 5.
