Geoffrey Connell, 68, pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving in Nowra Local Court on Monday.
Court papers said witnesses saw Connell’s car swerving on Burton Street at Vincentia around 3.30pm on June 4.
Police said Connell’s car hit a keep left sign at the Elizabeth Drive and Burton Street roundabout.
Officers said while he attempted to park in a supermarket car park, he collided with a handrail on the steps into the front of the shops.
A witness allegedly grabbed the keys from him.
Police said he was “unsteady on his feet and needed support to stop from falling over”.
He told officers he was unaware he had knocked down the sign or hit the hand rail.
A breath test produced a positive test and a breath analysis a reading of 0.159.
The matter will be back in court on July 31.
