While in Nowra, the Cup will engage in a number of exciting activities including an Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour Breakfast hosted by Shoalhaven City Turf Club, a visit to Clelland Lodge aged care facility, Noah’s Ark Pre-School and Terara Primary School, and a barbeque and sausage sizzle open to the public at the Archer Hotel.
Lynn Locke, CEO of Shoalhaven City Turf Club, said the community was looking forward to coming together to celebrate the iconic trophy.
“With the winner of the first and second Melbourne Cups, Archer, being trained in Shoalhaven, Nowra has long-standing ties to ‘the race that stops a nation’ so we’re thrilled to be hosting the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
“We also plan to raise funds in conjunction with the Shoalhaven City Council to erect an Archer Memorial in the city centre,” she said.
Racing legend Joe Agresta, former track rider for Bart Cummings, will join the Tour and share firsthand his unique Emirates Melbourne Cup stories.
Victoria Racing Club chair Amanda Elliott said the VRC was excited to bring the magic of the Emirates Melbourne Cup to the people of Nowra.
“The Melbourne Cup is an Australian cultural icon and is truly the People’s Cup, so we’re delighted to share it with the people, on this, its 15th annual tour of Australia and New Zealand,” Mrs Elliott said.
The famous trophy will visit 31 destinations across Australia and New Zealand, starting in West Wyalong in regional NSW, where the gold used by ABC Bullion to make the trophy is mined.
