Kicking downhill in the first term, Bomaderry failed to capitalise on their chances kicking one goal and six behinds to trail by two points at the first change.
The second quarter was a real arm wrestle and while the Tigers pressed hard, they had trouble getting through the Lions defence.
The third term was another tight affair with the Tigers edging within four points at the last break, however with the opposition having the downhill run and a strengthening breeze plus the lack of fresh legs and rotations, Bomaderry was unable to stop the Lions who pulled away in the end to win by 32 points in a torrid but entertaining game.
Final score: Bomaderry 5.8-38 to Lions 10.10-70
Goalkickers: Jack Boxsell, Phil Cowan, Andrew Ellis, Andrew Lee and Lachlan Hutchison one each.
Award winners: Tyler Dunstan (Crofty’s Tyre and Auto and Deli on Kinghorne vouchers), Corey Warrington (Bridge Tavern voucher), Andrew Lee (Kel Campbell Caltex fuel card), John Muggleton (Tuscany Wood Fired Top Tackle award), Jacob Wright (Mamma’s Italian Kitchen award), Toby Craig (Scruples Hairstyles voucher) and Lachlan Hutchison (Dunn and Williams coaches cup).
In reserves grade, the Tigers again found the going tough against a side that really should be playing first grade. Great to see young John Ulrick and Oscar Kennedy come up from the under 17s and play well in their first senior game plus special mention to Lachlan Price on playing his 50th game for the club.
Final score: Bomaderry 2.2-14 to Port Kembla 18.23-131
Goalkickers: Matt Barnes and Tobias Hanger on each.
Award winners: Beau Hanger (Crofty’s Tyre and Auto player’s player award), Liam Richardson (Bridge Tavern voucher), Tobias Hanger (Tuscany Wood Fired Top Tackle award), Lachlan Hunt (Mamma’s Italian Kitchen award), Ryan Heard (Scruples Hairstyles voucher) and Paul Stevenson (Dunn and Williams coaches cup).
This weekend, this Tigers are at Artie Smith Oval with reserve grade playing Ulladulla followed by first grade against Shellharbour.
Awards will be presented after the game with the badge draw up to $120, so well worth sticking around.
In other news, on behalf of everyone at the club, the Tigers would like to wish Sally Boxsell a speedy recovery. Also a big thanks to everyone that helped out on the weekend including Tracy and the boys on the barbecue.
