Premier Motor Service revamped a decommissioned bus, painted it yellow, and donated it to the charity.

Charity founder Col Reynolds, a retired bus driver who worked for the bus company that Premier eventually bought, will drive the big yellow bus along the Eastern seaboard, setting off from Townsville, and ending in Tasmania.

Mr Reynolds aims to promote the research his charity supports – vital research for kids suffering from cancer.

“I decided the only way to save these kids was to find a cure, and it’s become my life’s work now, to try and save little kids from going through this insidious illness,” he said.

“It’s the greatest killer of kids by disease in Australia, and the only way to stop this is through science.

“It’s the greatest killer of adults, but we have to opportunity (to reduce the risk) by lifestyle changes, there’s no lifestyle change with a child.

“By getting out on the road and bringing this awareness to the general public we want to make people see that kids with cancer need support and the only support they’re going to get is via adults.”

The charity has donated more than $34 million to cancer research organisations in its 24 years of operation.

Premier owner John King said supporting charity was a crucial part of being a good corporate citizen.

“It’s just been a no-brainer for us,” he said.

“Col used to drive for us, it’s been 29 years now, he’s been a rock of getting this project up and running.

“I’m very proud, our team put it together in no time, it’ll be ready by August.”

Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis promised Mr Reynolds that she would contact parliamentary colleagues along the coast, and let them know that he’s headed their way. 

The bus will finish its tour in Sydney in time for Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September.
