Police found Peter John Baillie, 49, slumped over the wheel of his four wheel drive in Tarraba Crescent, Nowra about 4.30am on April 20 this year.
The vehicle was facing Greenwell Point Road with its lights on and the motor running.
Baillie told officers he had driven the vehicle from his ex-partner’s place and was “having a sleep”.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a flintlock pistol without a barrel in the footwell of the rear passenger seat.
They also found a loaded bolt action rifle with a round in the magazine and 13 Winchester rounds.
Baillie was not licensed to have the guns.
In Nowra Local Court on Friday he pleaded guilty to possessing a loaded firearm, possessing ammunition without a permit and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said there was no alternative to jail and sentenced him to two years with a non-parole period of 12 months.
He will first be eligible for release on April 19 next year.
She also fined him $1000 to possessing the ammunition.
