The Nowra couple welcomed their first baby on Sunday, July 2 at Shoalhaven Hospital.
Nylah Patrica Esma Eliza Williams was born at 12.32pm, weighing 3.7 kilograms.
Proud grandmother Christine Ma'Afu said Nylah’s birth date had extra significance.
“I asked the nurses and they said Nylah was the only Aboriginal baby born on NAIDOC Day in the Shoalhaven so it’s extra special,” she said.
“She’s our NAIDOC baby, and she’s just gorgeous.”
Kayshan, 24, said she chose Nylah’s name after many hours of research.
“I was wanting a unique and unusual name, that no one had and then I came across this name after searching lots of names on many websites,” she said.
Nylah arrived a day early, just in time for the start of NAIDOC Week celebrations, from July 2 to July 9.
Along with Christine, Nylah is a new granddaughter for Michelle Campbell, David Berger and Ruben Wellington.
