The issue might have been decided but it could come back to haunt Federal Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis support from an unexpected area but instead she faces a backlash.
MPs, last week, voted 73-72 to cut the rates and now we want your vote – so please take the poll.
Mrs Sudmalis was never going to cross the floor to support the opposition on this matter.
“To walk the floor and support a hypocritical opposition policy that does not support the people of Gilmore nor business across the region won’t ever happen,” she said.
Mrs Sudmalis said the recent decision will help small business.
“Every aspect of creating a job opportunity has to be explored to help our young people especially, to find work.”
Deputy President of Unions Shoalhaven Rick Gainford said thanks to Mrs Sudmalis Shoalhaven workers will suffer.
“Ann Sudmalis has in effect cut the take home pay 6,175 workers across the Gilmore electorate from July 1. It’s a pay cut they can’t afford and don’t deserve,” he said.
Mr Gainford said there was no evidence that cutting penalty rates will create jobs but there is significant anecdotal evidence that working people and families will suffer undue hardship.
