The Nowra resident was shopping last year when she spotted her past boyfriend, Matthew Watson. She hadn’t seen him in 26 years.
The pair dated when Megan was 16 and Matthew was 22, after first meeting in Gerringong. An on and off relationship ensued for 10 years, but the pair eventually went their separate ways.
However, a chance meeting in the fishing section at Kmart brought them back together.
“I couldn’t believe it, I said to my daughter, ‘I think that’s Matthew Watson’,” Megan said.
“I stalked him for about half an hour to make sure it was him but he didn’t see me.”
Losing her nerve, Megan left Kmart. At the last minute she changed her mind and marched back in.
An hour later the two shared drinks and almost three decades worth of memories together.
“It was weird and awesome at the same time,” Matthew said.
The couple has even more reason to celebrate now.
Matthew proposed on June 22 while they enjoyed a horse ride along the beach at Shoalhaven Heads.
“He came up next to me on the horses and put the ring box on top of the saddle,” Megan said.
“I got a huge surprise.”
The special moment was captured by Monique Miller from Regal Riding School.

“I had no idea it was about to happen. I just captured the moment,” she said.
“I’m so happy for them, they’re a lovely couple.”
While he said he was a little nervous leading up to the big moment, Matthew has had practice with romantic gestures.
For Megan’s 23rd birthday he bought her a medieval style dress and organised a taxi trip for the pair of them to a surprise destination.
A helicopter ride over the Blue Mountains soon followed to celebrate the special occasion.
“He’s still romantic, he hasn’t changed,” Megan said.
