In the past, Auskick has been a platform for 5-12 year olds of the Shoalhaven to be introduced to the sport but this year, AFL South Coast introduced a new format that would allow 5-7 year olds to experience playing the sport with modified rules.
On top of that, children 7-10 could be included in the junior league, playing under 11s with both age groups and providing them with the opportunity to play against other local clubs.
This decision meant that if Shoalhaven Auskick did not establish a junior club, half of the existing children would need to find another club to play for – so the passionate committee decided it was in their best interest to establish the Shoalhaven Giants.
