A number of local Aboriginal elders were among the special guests at the assembly.
The message of how the oldest living culture and its spirituality can combine with the catholic culture and spirituality and how they can fit together and nourish each other was expressed during the assembly.
St Michael’s Catholic Church priest, Father Duane Fernandez touched on those sentiments.
“It is important this culture and spirituality is preserved and passed on for future generations,” he said.
The boys’ and girls’ Aboriginal dance troupes both performed a number of traditional dances, while the Year 11 Aboriginal Studies class presented a video item and the Year 10 Marine Studies class produced an artwork depicting the art of storytelling.
Student Bandria Nye-McLeod performed a wonderful rendition of Monica Brown’s ‘This is Our Land’, which she had previously sang at the First Nations Convention at Uluru.
