Nowra Men
The conditions for the Single Stableford on Saturday were typical for this time of the year. The course is slow due to the heavy dew that we experience with the clear nights, because the course never seems to get sufficient sun to dry out. Hence, scores are low. Shayne Ashton only needed 38 pts to win ‘A’ grade. Martin Daly maintains form to take second on c/b from Dave Murphy, both scoring 37 pts. Long drive went to Andrew Bradley. ‘B’ grade saw Grant Gleeson take first with a solid 39 pts. John Hatchman was good for second with his 38 pts and Pete Foley snuck into third with 37 pts. Long drive to Tony Gilmore. David Goodman secured first in ‘C’ grade with 38 pts and 35 pts was all that was needed to take out the minor places, those going in c/b order to Warren Dunlop and George Parker. Long drive went to John Henry. Balls ran out on 33 pts. Sue Beazley had 30 pts. The NTP’s at the 4th went to Denis Mulvihill, the 8th to Kel Campbell, Paul Collins was good for the 12th and Martin Daly was closest at the 16th.
The Vets on Tuesday entertained the usual visitors from around the place. They are also contesting the Hen and Cock of the Walk annual 2BBB match for boys and girls. The final matches are getting close. The day’s event for the boys saw Peter Done and Reg Klein get up with 42 pts on c/b from those Jamberoo Jokers, Bruce Hammond and Charlie Beer. Balls ran out at 38 pts. The NTP’s at the 4th went to Charlie Beer, the 8th and ‘jackpot’ to Bruce Hammond, Kev. Longford was good for the 12th and John Pratt was closest at the 16th.
On the girl’s side of things Viv Mitchell and Betty Tucker got up with 40 pts and balls ran out at 35 pts on c/b. The NTP’s for the girls at the 4th went to Sandra Marshall, the 8th to Shirley Moore, Jill Levi was good for the 12th and Betty Tucker was closest at the 16th.
The mid-week Stableford players made the magic number of 50 so two grades were paid. The best in ‘A’ grade was 37 pts and on c/b Trevor Bond made first, Col. Stubbs second and Col. Lott third. ‘B’ grade saw Doug Collins with a solid 39 pts for first, George Parker for second with 37 pts and Greg Jennings in third with 36 pts. Balls ran out at 33 pts. The NTP’s at the 4th went to Greg Jennings, the 8th to Col Stubbs and Martin Daly was good for the 12th.
Members, time is getting close to the EGM at Bomaderry Bowling Club and for all of you who are not at least social members of that club, Sunday morning 9th of July will be when the fate of Nowra Golf Club will be decided. Please join BBC so you can vote ‘YES’ for amalgamation.

Today a good field of keen competitive golfers played Two Person Ambrose competition with the leader board recording a strong positive result. Today I and the other members of our group had the pleasure to play with a young man by the name of Brendan Dunphy who consistently propelled the ball long distances and more impressive did so with arrow accuracy down the centre of the fairways. Today the two players who played the most consistent and skilful golf to come home the winners with an impressive 60.75 Points was Greg Lockerbie and Alan White. Coming into second spot was the team of Brendan Dunphy and Bill Downton who also played some very impressive golf to record their 62 points. Third home just a half of one point behind was Graham Lewington and Shane Hahesy who combined their great long drives with other skilful shots to record their place in the winner’s circle. Nearest the Pins:- 3rd hole Tony Pitt-Lancaster/Jamie Reardon, 14th hole Graham Lewington/Shane Hahesy and 16th hole David Brumby/Perry Cousins.
