But Shoalhaven City Council’s Corporate and Community Service Group has taken it to the next level, turning it into a fundraising event.
Each Friday, staff wear mufti clothes to work, chipping in gold coin donations.
As soon as the fundraising reaches $1000, the funds are donated to a local charity or service.
Corporate and Community director Craig Milburn said the department had already donated $6500.
The latest $1000 donation was made to the PCYC Shoalhaven.
Club manager Jeff Morris was presented with the cheque on Friday which will be used to continued the many wonderful programs the organisation conducts.
“The staff has really embraced the concept,” Mr Milburn said.
“We go around with Henrietta the flying hippo and collect the funds. You don’t even have to say anything now, staff hear the first rattle of coins going into Henrietta and they are ready and waiting with their donations.”
He said staff had suggested what groups they should support.
“The names are all put in a barrell and when we reach $1000, which takes about six weeks, we randomly draw out a lucky winner,” he said.
“We have now supported six community groups.”
