One man has been killed and eight taken to hospital after a van was used to drive into people at Finsbury Park in north London.
Police say one man has been arrested and there are a number of injured people being treated at the scene.
Metropolitan Police said it was dealing with a "major incident".
The Muslim Council of Britain says the vehicle hit people as they were leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque, one of Britain's largest.
British Prime Minister Theresa May says her thoughts are with all those injured in the "terrible incident".
The van driver, 48, will be subject to a mental health assessment.
The investigation is being undertaken by the police's counter-terrorism command.

The incident unfolded just after midnight, London time.
It happened on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, in north London.
There are two mosques nearby.
Deaths and injuries
Police say one man has been pronounced dead at the scene.
Eight people have been taken to hospital.
What did witnesses see?
Witnesses say a white van being driven by a white man drove down Seven Sisters Road, the BBC reports.
The motorist deliberately mounted the pavement and drove into a group of people who had been assisting an elderly man, who had collapsed.
Some witnesses say five have been injured, others say more, the BBC reports.

A witness told Sky News at least 10 people were hit by the van.
The driver of the van screamed, "I'm going to kill all Muslims" before being tackled to the ground by bystanders, witness Abdulrahman Saleh Alamoudi told BuzzFeed News.
Witness Abdikadar Warfa told the London Telegraph that bystanders attempted to lift the van off an injured man while others apprehended the driver.

The incident was close to two mosques, where hundreds of people were attending prayers for Ramadan.
Witnesses told the BBC that three men got out of the vehicle after it hit a motorcyclist.
Two escaped. One was held by passersby until he was arrested by police.

Is it terrorism?
Authorities have not yet called it a terrorist attack.

Official response
British Prime Minister Theresa May says her thoughts are with all those injured.
"This is a terrible incident," Ms May said in a statement.
"All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones, and the emergency services on the scene."
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wrote on Twitter: "I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight. I've been in touch with the mosques, police and Islington council regarding the incident.
"My thoughts are with those and the community affected by this awful event".
The Muslim Council of Britain has condemned the attack, calling it "the most violent manifestation" yet of Islamophobia and calling for extra security around mosques.
The chairman of the mosque at Finsbury Park, Mohammed Kozbar tweeted: "Our thoughts and prayers with those who got injured and effected by this cowardly attack".
