With a few restrictions on where competitors could park, the competition was held under clear autumn skies, the rain only improving the going for the horses.
High score of the day went to Gill Rickard riding her new young horse, Greco.
This was Greco’s first outing and he showed some lovely trot work and a very elastic canter to score over 73 per cent in the official preliminary 1.2.
Charlotte Phillips had her first competition on Pamela Bice’s Rosthwaite Tinkerbell.
This pony mare usually competes grand prix with Pamela, but she is now also giving Charlotte a taste of competing at the higher levels.
Charlotte and ‘Tinks’ won the prix St George with 58.9 per cent.
Charlotte also competed on Ann O’Neil’s lovely pony mare Kooralyn Serena.
This combination placed third at the recent Sydney CDI, an international level competition, in the pony classes.
Charlotte may still be a junior rider but she is certainly making her mark on the dressage scene.
Another local rider who competed in the advanced competitions at the CDI, Fiona Cox and Cil Dara Roxanne, backed up with wins in both of the official advanced tests, scoring 65.3 per cent in the 5.1 and 64.9 per cent in the 5.2.
Winner of the junior competitions on Sunday was Zarah McCarthy and Jedlea, winning both the prelim 1.1 and 1.2.
In the members only competitions, Julee Jones and her pony Jarmark Rosita, outclassed all of the bigger horses to win both of the preliminary tests with good scores.
Julee not only competes, she is one of the hard working committee members and she prepared a delicious lunch for the judges and volunteers once she had finished her ride.
Shoalhaven Dressage Club’s next competition is on Sunday, June 24.
