The Warriors trailed 18-14 at halftime with Donte Efaraimo crossing two minutes before the break to keep his side in touch after the Razorbacks posted three tries in the opening stanza.
South West took a six-point cushion into the final stages via a penalty goal to Jett Karam before unanswered tries to Kurt Field, Corey Mullhall and Ryan James sealed the win at Ron Costello Oval.
Forrester said he was happy with the result that came off a limited preparation for his side.
“It was a pretty scrappy affair, both sides dropped a lot of ball, but we hung tough and got away with the win which was very pleasing,” Forrester said.
“We only had three training sessions and didn’t get a full squad of players together but we’ll definitely be better for the run.”
South Coast/Illawarrawill now take on Monaro, who beat Riverina 28-12 on Saturday, as they look to claim the first CRL title under the new under 23s format.
“If you don’t play your best footy you’re going to get beaten on the day,” Forrester said.
“If we play our best footy we’re in with a chance.
“All I keep reminding the boys about is the wonderful opportunity they’ve got to play against the best country rugby league has to offer.
“For these young guys coming through it’s a great experience and they’ll learn from it no doubt and hopefully we can move forward.”
