Despite producing their best first quarter of the season, where the Tigers outscored the Gunners 20-8 at the Belconnen Basketball Stadium, Ian Ozolins’ men couldn’t keep their rhythm going for the rest of the match.
“Our first quarter was awesome, as we outscored Canberra by 12 points but then we went away from the way we were playing completely and only managed to score 34 for the rest of the game,” Ozolins said.
“Instead of playing our free-flowing basketball, that we have become renowned for, we couldn’t buy a basket for long stretches.”
William Ozolins led the way for the Tigers with 16 points, while Alex Brown finished with 12 in the loss.
Thankfully Ozolins and his team get a chance to rectify this loss this weekend, when they host the Bankstown Bruins at the Den from 7pm.
“I know all the players believe we can win every game we play but they have got to show that killer mentality on the court,” he said.
“The biggest thing is that we need to play for the full 40 minutes, something we haven’t done all year, with St George being the closest.
“Bankstown have only lost one game all season but it’s hard to get a gauge on the competition - with teams losing to teams that you think they would defeat and vice versa. It’s going to be a good challenge for us on Saturday and I’m looking forward to it.”
