Too big for the Basin
Some residents of St Georges Basin are objecting to a proposal for a new Concept Master Plan for 15 blocks of four-storey flats (13metre height) on both sides of a narrow street (Anson Street) sitting above the lake and within the village of St Georges Basin. If approved these flats will be the first in this and surrounding villages.

It’s difficult to imagine and inappropriate outside of a major town or city.
It’s especially difficult and inappropriate when there are only one and two-storey buildings existing but now possibly over 1400 new residents coming into an area where there is high unemployment, no adequate public transport, inadequate medical facilities, no hospital, overcrowded schools and existing traffic problems in the narrow street, and not taking into consideration the cumulative effects of existing approved subdivisions in St Georges Basin.
Past large developments sitting above the waterway of St Georges Basin have seen huge amounts of sediment laden stormwater pollute the lake during heavy storm events. It seems most often these events happen when land has been stripped and building to commence and sometimes, just contractor’s negligence.
These are a few of the many reasons for residents to be concerned with this proposal that could be seen as a new village within our outlying village of Nowra.
Why is this happening and could it happen in yours or a village near you?
A very long story, many are confused and don’t realise they must comment on this Concept Master Plan still to be heard and yes it could happen elsewhere.
Check out Shoalhaven City Council’s web site DA Tracking for RA17/1000 Anson Street, St Georges Basin and comment by May 30. The community will discuss this issue at Basin Villages Forum meeting on Monday, May 15, Meriton Street hall, 7.30pm

Education options needed
Malcolm Turnbull has again via his embrace of Gonki 2.0 has demonstrated his left-leaning ideology credentials.
I support needs-based funding in education but we must have alternatives to a public education system such as Catholic, private and independent schools.
The public system is being hijacked by leftist teachers via support from their Teachers Federation. They have unfettered access to our children while developing and implementing radical curricula in support of their own individual agendas.
The Catholic system, for example, is such a stark difference from many of the public system teachings and offers a clear difference in tolerance towards pupil behaviour that parents so want in the learning environment available to their children.
Union dominated teaching systems at all levels, it could be said, are out of control and getting worse day by day.
We should never surrender our children to a public system that has shown of late that it is more interested in ideology than moderate based educational outcomes.
Turnbull has once again nailed his colours to the Labor-like mast, aided and abetted by Gonski.

Hospital parking woeful
I have been living down here since 1974. I have spent quite a few times in Shoalhaven Hospital. I couldn’t find a better hospital. The nurses and doctors are the best.
I only have one complaint and that is the parking at the hospital. Once all the doctors and nurses park their cars, there is no room parking for the visitors.
When they do find a place to park in the back streets they have to walk for miles. I am nearly 90 and have had to walk that distance and I am not the only one.
I think the old bridge will last last a few more years yet. It’s about time the politicians down here do something about the parking and forget about the bridge for a while.
