LABOR’S pledge of $50 million to replace the Nowra bridge won’t even do a quarter of the job, according to Kiama MP Gareth Ward and was an insult to Shoalhaven residents.
Talking about the Regional Roads Program in state government, Mr Ward slammed Labor and in particular its Gilmore candidate Fiona Phillips over its announcement.
“They are taking Shoalhaven residents as schmucks,” Mr Ward declared.
He revealed the state government had applied to the federal government for $180 million to replace the bridge through Infrastructure Australia.
“We have done our job seeking funding the community needs for this bridge,” Mr Ward said.
“The people of the Shoalhaven should not only be concerned about today’s announcement by Labor but be disgusted.
“$50 million won’t even do a quarter of the job. It seems people will have to swim across the river from span to span.
“Labor’s announcement in the Shoalhaven is not something to celebrate. It is a disgrace.
“Their candidate is an embarrassment who can’t do the job. She is pathetic - incompetent.”
Mr Ward said the government spends $4 billion a year on roads, maritime and freight - a 67 per cent rise increase across the state.
“In South Coast there has been a 110 per cent increase on road spending compared to Labor for upgrades like the Gerringong bypass and the Berry Bypass.
“Look out your window at Berry and ask who actually delivers on Shoalhaven roads.
“Along with the Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock we have delivered the Gerringong to Berry bypass, the South Nowra upgrade, work at Termeil Creek and Burill Lake and we will continue to deliver for regional roads.
“The opposition here aren’t ready to make the tough decisions.”
