Murchie, who plys his trade for the Canberra Raiders under 20s team, is ready to grab this opportunity with both hands.
“I was surprised and excited when the team was announced and I saw I had been included,” Murchie said.
“It's a huge honour for me to be able to represent my country and I can't wait to rip in.
“This ranks as my highest personal achievement to date – it doesn’t get much bigger than representing your country.”
The 19-year-old, who also played for the Gerringong Lions, has helped the Raiders to equal fifth position on the under 20s ladder through the first nine games.
“I thought my form wasn't too bad at the start of the season but in the last six weeks, I've really built up my confidence and strung some of my best performances together,” he said.
Murchie, who will be joined by fellow Group 7 product Jai Field (Albion Park-Oak Flats) in the team, is keen to test himself on the international stage.
“I'm expecting a fierce game - New Zealand always turn up ready to play,” he said.
“It won't be an easy game and we will have to be at our best to match them – the first couple of collisions should be awesome to watch.
“I'm just going to enjoy the camp and the game and try and soak up and learn as much as I can from the older boys and the experience around me.
“This is obviously the top honour for my age group so hopefully this pushes me forward and closer to my dream of an NRL debut in the future.”
