Berry Men's Bowls
A good attendance and excellent weather on Wednesday 5th April resulted in some entertaining and quality matches.
In a pairs match, which included Bob Webster visiting from Bomaderry and lead for Lindsay McNamara, saw them take the match by number of ends won from Bob Dunn and Derek Raymond who made a dramatic revival over the last six ends that left them short. In another pairs match Peter Haddon and Tom Froggatt won the most ends but went down to the good scoring of Brian Povey and Rob Folkard. The triples match of the day saw Ken Crocker, Ken Stephens and Peter Webb win 11 of the 21 ends but still suffered defeat by Marlon Rea, Arch Mackinnon and David Armstrong. Another triples match of note saw Barry Dunn, Nick Nicholls and Terry Hayes out play on the day David Lambert, Phil Chittick and David Badger.
Callala Bowls
Once again, rain prevented any play for the lady bowlers, last Tuesday, April 4. We did manage to do the draw for the 2017 Major Singles due to commence yesterday. Good luck to all the ladies participating in this event.
On Saturday, April 8, the Men’s grade 7 team hosted Milton-Ulladulla in their last game of Pennants for 2017. What a game it was with Callala winning all rinks plus the overall, 58 – 40, giving them 10 points for the round, a great way to finish the season.
The No 5 Pennant team travelled to St Georges Basin for their round 7 match. They also had a great afternoon, winning 2 rinks and the overall, 75 -52, to win 9 points for the round. The next round will be played on Saturday, 22 April, after the Easter break.
