Murray is a living legend most famously known for his song, My Island Home, but also hugely responsible for recognition of Indigenous music by mainstream Australia.
He will be supported by Paul Greene who is a South Coast singer songwriter with eight solo albums, one of which was an ARIA finalist, as well as an album with midnight Oils Rob Hirst under the name Hirst & Greene' and is currently performing with and about to release an album singing and writing for Spy v Spy.
The dinner and show will be held at a secret location somewhere in Jervis Bay (location divulged at time of booking).
There are only a limited number of tickets available at www.southcoasttickets.com.au/events/neil-murray/.
Murray’s work collectively describes an inner landscape to the heart of the nation – a journey which has done much to deepen and strengthen Australia’s contemporary musical heritage.
He first appeared in the early eighties as a founding member of the Warumpi Band, which over three albums and years of performing, propelled contemporary indigenous music into mainstream Australia, yielding such classic songs as My Island Home, Blackfella Whitefella, Fitzroy Crossing, Jailanguru Pakarnu, Stompin’ Ground, From the Bush and Waru.
He has since become one of Australia’s most respected and influential singer/songwriters and has enjoyed a solo career since 1989. He has released twelve solo albums.
In 1995, Neil Murray was awarded the APRA song of the year for My Island Home originally written for the Warumpi Band and re-recorded by Christine Anu. "My Island Home" has become something of an unofficial anthem and featured in the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Neil Murray's songs have been recorded by Mary Black, Jimmy Little, Amy Saunders, The Tiddas, Christine Anu, Ursula Yovich and the Warumpi Band.
The food being inspired by Neil Murray and his music is a tricky one, as to capture the entire Australian spirit in a meal- but there will be oysters natural, barbecue prawn skewers and pickled octopus for entre. A choice of chilli mussel bowl or kangaroo pie for main with homemade sourdough and garden salad sides. Dessert will feature lemon meringue tart or jam lamingtons.
