Despite the wet weather of the past few weeks which has put a stop to the annual pilgrimage of caravaners to the Terara property of Owen and Thelma Ison, the campout will be conducted as planned Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“We have received a lot of rain,” Mr Ison said, 370mm of rain.
“Our paddocks are wet and we have had to put a stop to the caravaners camping on site.”
Mr Ison was estimating more than 400 vans would call his 21 acre property home over the weekend.
“It’s just too wet to be able to get the big caravans and motorhomes in,” he said.
“The water is getting away. We are hoping the warm weather continues to help dry out the area and we will be able to utilise it for car parking.”
He said of the walk up artists and dances on Thursday and Friday had been cancelled, but the Campout program would go ahead as scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“It’s disappointing we have had to cancel those early events but we will definitely be going ahead this weekend,” he said.
Headlining the weekend’s event, which raises money for a number of local children’s organisations is Chad Morgan, affectionately known as The Sheik from Scrubby Creek.
Also on the program are the likes of Peter Coad, the Coad Sisters and Jim Hermel and The Gun Barrel Highway Men featuring Owen Blundell, Terry Gordon and Reg Poole are on the program.
Mr Ison said many of the campout regulars have already arrived in town.
“We have redirected them to various local caravan parks,” he said.
“The Mudgee mob and Central Coast Caravanners have already arrived in town.
“We must thank everyone who has helped us to relocate the many visitors.
“Some are staying at the Nowra Showground, others are at other locations.”
The campout officially starts at 10am on Friday, March 31 and include a performance by Terara Public School students and will conclude at 10pm.
Saturday’s activities start with a poets’ breakfast at 7am and goes through until 10pm, while Sunday starts at 8am again with a poets’ breakfast and continues until 5.40pm.
Chad Morgan is expected to take the stage around 8pm on Saturday.
Food and drinks will be available throughout the weekend.
