As a result, the minor-premiers claimed back-to-back titles, which had not been achieved since Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens did it back in 2011/12 and 2012/13.
“It’s very special to go back-to-back - it’s hard enough to win one premiership but to go back-to-back is wonderful achievement,” Magpies captain Chris McCarron said.
“We have a special group of players in our side at the moment and hopefully we can stay together and continue to be successful for years to come.”
While they are stoked to add the two-day premiership to their one-day title for the 2016/17 season, McCarron said the boys would have had played at the weekend but the ground at the Berry Sporting Complex and weather didn’t cooperate.
“It’s extremely disappointing to the win the way we did,” he said.
“Nowra had the wood on us all season and it would have been a great grand final – a challenge we were all looking forward to.
“We knew weather was going to play a part looking at the forecast going in to the last round game against Bomaderry and we prepared for that as a semi-final we were lucky enough to get the win to wrap up the minor-premiership.
“A sad way to end what was a great competition and in the 10 seasons I have had in the Shoalhaven, it was easily the closest competition I have been apart of and that's what you want, tough cricket each week.”
Looking back on the season, McCarron pin pointed a number of stars that led to this premiership.
“While we all contributed at times, I think Lachlan Maddison, Glenn Brandon and Brian and Joel Gray were our best,” he said.
“All were extremely consistent in a season that had its number of interruptions.”
Weather conditions prevented play in both second and fourth grade also, meaning Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens and Nowra won those respective crowns, while Berry won third grade against Batemans Bay.
