But the Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra won’t be littering – it’s part of the NSW government’s “Hey, Tosser!” campaign to track how far waste travels in our waterways.
The specially-made bottles are fitted with GPS tracking and the results shared via social media to show how far they travel.
“The NSW Government is ramping up its Hey Tosser! campaign in autumn so people are aware of how damaging litter is to the environment but also to show people it’s a preventable problem,” Mr Ward said.
“The bottles and GPS trackers released at Mullet Creek, are five of 40 bottles released across the state, which will be collected at the end of the project.”
Mr Ward said around 25,000 tonnes of litter was tossed in NSW each year, costing the state more than $180 million to manage.
