Because of all the rain we’ve had and the Weather Bureau’s promise of more, I have to remind one and all about the dangers of driving vehicles through flood waters.

The RMS and Shoalhaven City Council do not place road closed signs across a road for the fun of it.
They do it because they have your safety and your family’s safety in mind.
Rest assured that if you are caught going through flood waters when the road is closed you will be facing a fine of over $200 at the least and worst case scenario may well be facing a tragedy involving you or your family.
On a completely different subject I think I should remind you again about scams.
There are many different kinds of scams and they target the vulnerable and some are quite elaborate.
A recent scam involves people that are offering tree lopping services and then when on the property commit break and enters or steal from dwelling offences.
At this time it hasn’t happened in the Shoalhaven, but you should make sure that you deal with reputable businesses when having work done.
Be vigilant and don’t let it happen to you
If you are caught going through flood waters when the road is closed you face at least a $200 fine. It could also end in tragedy.

The Next of Kin Program helps people living alone to have the contact details of their nominated person recorded at a local police station.
The contact details of the Next of Kin, as well as the nominated doctor, dentist and any medical alerts that would help in an emergency situation will be entered onto a register.
Any information provided will be securely stored and only accessed by NSW Police.
This information may assist the ambulance and police in an emergency situation to contact a relative or other nominated person to inform them of your situation.
We will give you a key ring and a sticker.
Your registered number needs to be placed on these.
You can carry the key ring with you at all times.
The sticker can be placed on your home phone or fridge to alert emergency services that you are registered with the next of kin program.
Contact your local police station and ask to speak with the Crime Prevention Officer about the Next of Kin Program and application process.
The Next of Kin Program is a free of charge service.
That’s it for this week.
