Pauline Nield immigrated to Australia from the UK in 1963 where she worked as a district nurse in Birmingham visiting patients on her bicycle.
Mrs Nield has lived in the Shoalhaven for 14 years.
“We had a lovely home in Croziers Road with very good company and neighbours and we really enjoyed being in Berry,” Mrs Nield said.
“We enjoyed the people, the countryside, it could have been in the beautiful UK where there’s some beautiful places, the greenness, the farms, but in particular the people.”
Juan Alvarez was born in Argentina and moved to Australia in 1987.
“When I arrived in Sydney it was a real shock, a good shock, people smiled, I couldn’t believe it, people said please, to me it was an eye opener,” Mr Alvarez said.
“When I moved to the Shoalhaven I had another shock, the people were even nicer than they were in Sydney, that was beautiful.”
Kevin Wingate grew up in Wollongong, as a young man visited extended family who lived on North Street at Nowra.
“In 1950 my father purchased a block of land in Sanctuary Point, it was a new subdivision called Royal Park,” Mr Wingate explained.
“We built a small weekend cottage at a time when only about seven or eight other cottages were in that whole area. Our block was about the centre of Palm Beach, called Nudist Beach in those days.
“We have always loved this area for its peaceful, beautiful environment and the opportunity to relax away from business pressures.”
