The exchange programme with Lycée Paul Cézanne school, named after French painter, Paul Cézanne, who came from Aix-en-Provence, lasted two weeks, during which time the students attended classes in Years nine to 12 with their hosts.
The students spent five days in Sydney before travelling to Nowra, where they explored the city and practised their English on visits to Circular Quay, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
The group travelled by ferry to Manly and visited the Blue Mountains by train. They also went to Bondi Beach, Botanic Gardens, the Art Gallery of NSW, The Rocks, Sydney Tower and Aquarium.
In Nowra, students enjoyed a welcome BBQ at Vincentia with their host families, trips to Shoalhaven Zoo, the Roxy cinema and a surfing lesson was thrown into their busy itinerary.
The aim of the exchange is to give language learners the opportunity to experience immersion in their target language and culture, giving the students from France the opportunity to improve their English and learn about Australia.
In January 2016, Nowra High School teachers, took a group of senior French students to Aix-en-Provence where they were hosted by families from the Lycée Paul Cézanne.
January 2018 is the proposed date for the next Nowra High visit to France, during which time students get the opportunity to form connections and friendships with their French counterparts.
