As of Sunday, Dion’s has bulked up its No 1 run between Wollongong and Austinmer.
Six extra afternoon and evening services are running Monday to Thursday and four on Friday – that’s 28 in a week.
On top of that there are four extra Saturday services and nine on Sunday.
Some minor timetable tweaks have also been made to some existing Route 1 and 4 times to improve on time running and service efficiency.
Dion’s Bus Service manager Les Dion said he expected the extra bus runs to make a difference to commuters.
“Some of the improvements have come about as a result of the feedback we had received from our customers and we look forward to seeing them come to fruition,” Mr Dion said.
The revised timetable is also a win for disabled bus users as it introduces more wheelchair-accessible buses on the route.
“We’ve had more wheelchair buses come into the fleet so we’ve got more wheelchair bus allocations,” Mr Dion said.
“That’s pretty important because we have had feedback on certain services not having a wheelchair bus allocated to it.”
Mr Dion recommended that passengers needing wheelchair-accessible buses should check the updated timetable to ensure such a bus is still allocated to their desired trip.
“Although we added more accessible buses to our timetable, some allocations may have changed in order to maximise distribution,” Mr Dion said.
He also suggested people consult the timetable to check whether there has been any change to the services they usually catch.
Some services remain unchanged, some leave a minute or two earlier and others have has their time altered by five minutes or more.
New timetables are available on the Dion’s website and their buses.
Meanwhile in the southern suburbs, the Premier Illawarra 32 bus that runs between Brooks Reach and Dapto will be extended to serve the new residential development in Brooks Reach.
