About 11am on Sunday (February 19), police were notified of an abandoned camp at the rock cliffs at Mermaid Inlet, south of Little Beecroft Head.
Police held concerns for the welfare of the owner/s of the camp.
Police searched the area, while the Westpac Lifesaver helicopter also made sweeps of the area but failed to find any trace of the camper/s.
After putting a call out on social media, comments and discussions generated by the incident were monitored and police were able to make inquiries into the possible owner of the camp.
About 6.30pm Sunday, the owner of the camp was successfully identified and was safe and well.
Police said the campsite had been left by a 39-year-old Vincentia man who had intentions to return to the location.
Police praised the member of the community who found the campsite and raised the alarm.
Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command would like to thank the public for their assistance and for sharing posts and generating discussion via social media channels.
