Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men’s Bowls
Wednesday 15th February was a typical autumn day. The greens were rolling at a slow pace. Rink 2 saw Steve Hollington, Mick Edwards and John Edwards play terrific bowls to trounce their opponents by 27 to 17 shots. Rink 3 witnessed the game of the week. Dave Solomon, Joe Wright and Peter Smith got away to a stunning start winning the first 2 ends by a shot. Norm Schulz, Graham Richardson and Eddy Lee steadied the ship by winning the 3rd end. Ends were traded till a fabulous 3 moved Norm, Richo and Eddy into the lead by 5 shots to 4. Not to be outdone, Dave, Joe and Peter replied by winning the next 3 ends to retake the lead. A single shot end to Norm, Richo and Eddy kept them in the game but superb bowling by Dave, Joe and Peter led to a 2 shot then a fantastic 3 shot end to have them in the lead by 13 to 8 shots on the 15th end. There they sat as Norm, Richo and Eddy calmly and coolly levelled the scores, 1 shot at a time to be 13 all on the 19th end. This was anyone’s game! Who would take it by the scruff of the neck and shake out a win? Dave, Joe and Peter dug deep to take the lead on the penultimate end by a shot. Could they hold it? Showing great courage and fortitude, as well as excellent skills, Norm Schulz, Graham Richardson and Eddy Lee took the last end by 2 shots to win the game 15 shots to 14. Great work, mates.
Rink 4 Les Stuart, Tommy Smith and Trevor Politch played some wonderful bowls to overwhelm their opposition by 23 to 9 shots. Rink 5 resulted in a closely fought game with Greg Morphett, Ian Abberley and Harry Pearce finishing with a sensational 6 shot end to take the game by 23 shots to 21. On Rink 6, Garry Way and John Black played out a hard fought game with magnificent skill to take the game by 23 to 17 shots.
