An ideas day at the Nowra Showground will be held on Sunday February 26 from 11am to 1pm and community members are urged to make the most of this opportunity.
The community will be able to provide feedback on a range of topics like general use, events and facilities at the showground which can be used by locals and visitors.
Council’s Senior Strategic Planner Susan Edwards said the process started from a resolution at a recent meeting when staff were asked to have a look at some improvements that could be done at the facility.
“So we got together with the Nowra Show Society and out of that we thought we can make decisions and we have a plan of management that was done in 2009 that needs updating but we decided to go to the community and see how they want to use it (the showground),” she said.
“We want to find out how the people currently use the showground and how they think it could be used better.
“It’s really just about asking the community because they are the ones who come here.”
She added the showground was a fantastic asset for the community and a great number of people do use the showground but more people were always welcome to use the facility.
“This great facility is in our backyard,” she said
“It has good usage but I think there is potential to do more here.”
Several groups have indicated they will be taking part in the process but more are welcome. Individuals and representatives from sporting and community groups are encouraged to attend.
People are asked to RSVP by Thursday February 23 and it’s fine for people to just turn up on the day.
“The more people that are here the better and we are also going to set up a project’s page on council’s website for people who can't attend,” she said.
The day will be run as a workshop with tables set up and people can move around and give ideas on the different precincts like the pavilion and added area.
The 2009 plan of management for the Nowra Showground is still online at council’s website and people can do some reading before they turn up.
Light refreshments will be provided and RSVP to Susan Edwards, Shoalhaven City Council at email council@shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au or contact council on 4429 3111.
