McMillan (Illawarra CC) went over the line ahead of Alice Lauder, Hubert Driehuis, Frank Neri and Jo Chalain to take this win.
Close behind were Tony McGowan, Kate Darke and Bruce Jenkins and this group were the survivors from the front of the race.
Forty seconds later Jean-Paul Brando Carre led the first of the back markers over the line ahead of Nathan Crump, Michael Berriman, Phil Rice, Gary Bryce and Rob Pickard with Tim Devlin, Dave Gray, Henry Wakeford, Michael Thompson, Paul Mackie and Richard Vitiello in a line behind.
The timekeepers were closely watching the clock as the fastest time race was on.
It was going to be close as Mark Astley led the scratch riders over the finish line with a half-wheel margin over Simon Meredith (Illawarra CC) and a similar margin to Jade Colligan.
This scratch trio managed to take the time prize by three seconds after a long chase of the second scratch group.
Race winner McMillan had started the event in a group that was eight minutes ahead of the scratch trio.
He was off the mark with Brad Oaten, Alice Lauder and Jo Chalain and by half distance three groups had combined at the front.
The middle of the race did not make the catch and were swallowed up from behind to have a dozen riders in a chase bunch.
This made the chase for the scratch bunch difficult as many riders joined this working group.
The Nowra Velo Club will return to the Braidwood Road course on February 26 for a 42-kilometre handicap event that will start from Wugan Street in the Albatross Aviation Technology Park at 8am.
