Eric Bathe pleaded guilty to affray following an incident in Nowra in January 2016 where another man was injured.
The court heard the incident happened between 11.45pm on January 29 and 1am January 30 where Bathe, who had been drinking with two friends, got into a verbal argument with one of the men.
The court heard Bathe, who suffers from a schizophrenic disorder, became aggressive and the pair became involved in a physical encounter.
Bathe allegedly went to leave the property but returned with a metal baseball bat, striking the man in the forearm.
Court documents said Bathe was not usually an aggressive man but had been drinking heavily and this incident was out of character.
Bathe did not recall the exact event but remembered grabbing the baseball near the front door of the property.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said Bathe now realised how alcohol was cancelling out the effect of his medication.
Magistrate Fleming placed him on a two-year good behaviour bond.
