The Nowra and Shoalhaven crews were called to bushland bounded by Westborne Drive and Yalwal Road, where according to station officer Glenn Edwards five spot fires had been deliberately lit.
“We arrived at the reserve and found three separate fires in the eastern side of the reserve and a further two fires to the south west,” he said.
“We were able to extinguish the fires quickly.
“This action is quite alarming. If it happened on Monday with temperatures over 40 degrees and strong westerly winds it could have been catastrophic.”
Fires were also lit in the same area on Sunday, while another area within the reserve was also deliberately burnt prior to Christmas.
“It is alarming, despite the media coverage of bushfires that people continue to light fires,” he said.
The incidents will be reported to police.
