Jake Gerald Platt, 22, pleaded guilty to assault, when he appeared in Nowra Local Court on Wednesday.
Court papers stated Platt was in the custody of Corrective Services at the Batemans Bay police station on January 23 when he appeared to have some sort of medical episode.
Police said Platt appeared “manic, was ranting and pressing his fingertips into his temples and was clenching his teeth”.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the station and treated Platt in the charge room at about 8.30pm, administering an intramuscular antipsychotic drug which calmed him down.
Officers continued to monitor his condition in the dock area.
At 11pm a male paramedic told Platt he was going to take his observations.
Court papers said as the paramedic attempted to place a thermometer in Platt’s ear he clenched his right fist and punched the man in the temple area.
It is alleged a second punched missed the target.
The attack was captured on CCTV, with the paramedic suffering neck pain and a headache.
Platt also faces a charge of breaching an apprehended violence order in Nowra on January 22.
Bail was not applied for and was refused by Magistrate Gabriel Fleming. Platt will be sentenced on February 10.
