The 87-year-old was last seen about 5.30am on Saturday, January 21 at a retirement village on Meriton Street, St Georges Basin.
Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command commenced an extensive search.
About 3pm on Tuesday, January 24 the man was located by volunteers in St Georges Basin.
He was assessed by ambulance paramedics for dehydration and exposure.
Police thank the media, volunteers and the public for their assistance.
Mr Simpson, while he was missing, would have had to deal with the recent hot conditions.
Around 100 Rural Fire Service volunteers from Shoalhaven, Far south Coast, Illawarra and Southern Tablelands took part in the successful search for the missing man.
When the elderly Mr Simpson first went missing serious concerns were held for his welfare as he suffers from a number of medical conditions that require ongoing treatment.
