The vessel hull split open and sank quickly one mile off Plantation Point in Vincentia after it ploughed into two consecutive waves. The crew were only able to call for help twice before they found themselves treading water.
There was no time for the three people, who were reportedly in the water for over an hour, to put their life jackets on.
The female passenger managed to keep her mobile phone above the surface of the water and had fortunately saved Marine Rescue Jervis Bay’s number to her speed dial list earlier in the day.
A motor cruiser and yacht which were in the vicinity of the submerged vessel and attended the scene to retrieved the people from the water before JB20 arrived.
They were then transferred to JB20, where rescue personnel checked the three for any injury and took them to Huskisson where they were further checked by local ambulance officers and interviewed by Nowra Police.
