“A few years back my little sister suddenly became really sick and was diagnosed with golden staph in the blood, this lead to her being transferred through to Sydney and placed in an induced coma for a week,” Miss Fishpool said.
“The care, love and attention showed to her by doctors and nurses really inspired me to want to give back because she made it through something that they said she may not make it through.”
The former St John The Evangelist High School pupil was one of more than 50,000 prospective university students in NSW to find out if they secured a place at university when first round offers were issued on Wednesday.
Miss Fishpool is headed to the University of Wollongong where she will study nursing.
“I am off to Shoalhaven this year as it is close to home and living at home will be more affordable,” she said.
As well as the course Miss Fishpool is looking forward to campus social life.
“I’m looking forward to uni life including the UniBar and meeting new people with the same goals as me,” she said.
