January 4 was unsailable due to a strong southerly wind and Saturday the 7th presented with a “light” breeze of 5-6 knots. Nine skippers began the 2017 season, including two new design boats, both International Lasers, owned by Fred Elphinstone and Tony Blackmore being sailed by invitation. Only three heats could be completed before the wind increased to an unsailable strength.
Tuesday, January 10, promised better breezes when the morning opened with a light south-east breeze of approximately 3 knots and 11 skippers chomping at the bit ready to sail. We actually managed 13 heats for the day (a record number?)
This year is our eighth season and the club continues to grow with enthusiastic members meeting twice each week (mostly despite the weather). Sailing has become very popular with many visitors each Saturday coming to watch the excitement of close, determined racing of these small radio controlled yachts.
All visitors are welcome and any of those interested are given the opportunity of trying their hand at the controls.
