No-one else to blame
I have lived in Nowra all my life and I was very offended by the program on ABC ‘The End of the Line’.

Nowra didn’t cause these people to become addicted to drugs, it was their choice.
If they hate Nowra so much, why don’t they do what Mr Abood (producer) did and relocate?

All attention, all the time
We write to remind readers that it literally only takes seconds for a child to drown.
The hotter weather is already with us and we ask all readers to take the greatest of care when children are in or around water.
Our key message is that you must give ALL of your attention ALL of the time.
Children under five are the age group most at risk of drowning.
Last year 14 children in Australia under 5 drowned in a backyard pool. Between 2002 and 2015, 128 children under 5 drowned in NSW. Sixty-five per cent of those deaths happened in a private swimming pool.
In 59 per cent of the cases, supervision was completely absent. So you have to be close to children all of the time. A supervised child is not going to drown.
We ask readers to make sure they are prepared for any swimming experience.
Focus all of your attention on your child. Watch, talk and play with them when they are in the water.
And watch all of the time. The reality is people answer doors, take a phone call, prepare food or get distracted – and that is when the most danger comes.

Warning against NBN
I recently had NBN installed by Exetel. What a big mistake.
I have internet but not any phone line at all even though I have paid for it. I had the phone via them for one day then on Christmas day it was off. All attempts to contact them have failed.
I’d like to cancel Exetel but they informed me to do so I would be required to give 30 days notice and pay over $300 to do so.
I spent six hours on the phone elsewhere on Saturday trying to sort this out. She told me I could not have my own phone number! Not sure just what to do now.
I managed to get on to Exetel Facebook page and leave messages but that led to nothing. I am now filling in forms for the Telco ombudsman. Don’t be silly enough to go to NBN Exetel.

Unethical Rates Calculations
Ref the article “Rates Hike Looms” 23/11/2016 in the Milton Ulladulla Times and on the South Coast Register’s website. Unethical Rates Calculations for “1Part” Submission.
Figures quoted in the article under reference confirm that it is the Council's intention to apply a full arithmetical compounding for both the proposed “Special Rate Variation” (SRV) 11.5% and the Set Rate Peg (SRP) currently 1.8%.
This means that there is a denial of any privilege as regards low inflation and a low “SRP” total compounding of both figures constitutes premeditated bracket creep.
The financial impact remains ongoing after expiry of the proposed S/R/V term. This is unacceptable.
Elected representatives should improve their act by only having the “SRP” subjected to compounding and the “SRV” made a separate line charge on the rates notice, and not having it further inflate the base rate, which should remain a separate category.
They might ponder what “special” means. I think it means “one off or extraordinary”.
Ratepayers might ponder as to when the penny will drop for ratepayers supposed representatives. The base figure for calculations for 2019/2020 indicates an overcharge of $253.49 to continue. This is unaffordable.
