RATES IRE RISES
I have this week received a document from. Shoalhaven City Council asking which of three options I prefer as a ratepayer to cough up $9,000, and that increase would be ongoing.

What isn't stated, Council needs make a case to be so allowed. By not having 'none of the above' in their survey, Council can erroneously claim support.
This deception is simply unwarranted, and my rates have already paid for its distribution. I ask who approved this deceptive document, and request that they consider resigning.

No help from taxi drivers
Recently a trip to Darwin exposed Australia's worst taxi drivers. They are so lazy and don't help with luggage or even get out of their cabs. But upon our return to Nowra six groups were waiting for taxis at the railway. Why doesn't at least one taxi be there waiting and radio for more. Oh and Nowra's drivers don't help or get out of the cab either.

Parking poses problems
I don't like Shellharbour but drove one hour, parked all day undercover for free and spent a lot of money. I would rather shop in Nowra, but the parking is the problem.
A parking station at Egans Lane /Schofields lane would be the best investment, for everyone.

Shareholders want answers
In answer to our Mayor Amanda Findley’s, response (December 19, 2016) to my previous letter I would like to state the following;
Amanda, you state “yet he only offers conjecture not facts on why this is the case. There have been three elections in that period and plenty of opportunity for change.”
I put forward two instances where money had been either over-budgeted or money, staff, material and machinery had been wasted.
You then go on to state “I have offered Mr Boucher on at least two occasions to come and meet staff or the general manager to go through any specific issues he might have”.
To my recollection, you have only offered once and that was on Facebook. I’m sure that the managers will be able to show, on paper, that they are correct with their costings.
My being there, and going over those figures (as I’m not an accountant), would be a waste of time, and may I add, a waste of ratepayers money. But, while we are on the subject of “overestimating”…..
You then go on to say “to date no specific issue has been brought to my attention. If a toilet block could actually be built for $30,000 I am sure everyone would jump at that opportunity.” Isn’t that a contradiction?
In the first letter to the editor I did give two examples. Here is another one. SCC put in a seat and entrance way to a section of park in Sanctuary Point.
While doing this job, for which the residents are thankful, there was an over estimation of the amount of concrete required for the project. It may have only been a couple of bags worth which would amount to $20 to $40 worth of material but, if you continue that loss over every project carried out by SCC it all adds up to a fair amount of money being wasted.
Regarding the toilet block, the builder said he could do the job for $10,000 not $30,000.
I was not out to lay blame on you or any councillor in particular. For too long SCC has had an ingrained attitude that the rate payers are an endless pit of money and that they, council, don’t answer to anyone except themselves. In any private company, the management are answerable to the shareholders. In this case, the rate payers are the shareholder and we are asking questions. The next step, will be for the ratepayers to ask for heads to roll from the top down..
