The school production is a big deal for the small primary school and is only put on every three years. Written again by local teacher Peter Markham, this year’s play took a light-hearted look at how computers can take over children's lives if not kept in check.
“Searching For Google” was about a young person named Google, and what happens when he suddenly gains a seemingly unlimited supply of bytes to use on his computer.
In the play, Google the kid gets addicted to gaming, so his parents and even his friends are worried about him. Lord Terrorbyte at his Byte Battalion HQ battles Team Pixel with Google freed by friends at the end, with a celebration song and dance to the song “Happiness”.
Mr Markham teamed up with music teacher Louise Hankinson and local dance teacher Bev Long for the production.
Earlier in the week some of the challenges seemed insurmountable and it was only the efforts of a handful of dedicated parents who brought together the complicated set and costume changes and allowed the production to go ahead.
School principal John Carter thanks all the support team and drama teachers at Narooma High School, where the play was staged, for their assistance.
Mr Markham ended saying it was all about watching over your children and teaching them well when there were so many distractions and horrible things on the internet.
He quoted the Crosby, Stills and Nash song “Teach your Children” saying the lines:
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.
