Good move by council
We are so pleased to read of the council’s decision to restrict showground visitors stays to campervan, caravans and tents only on special events. We had to stop using the grounds, a public space, due to the rude manner of the transients. It was a very threatening place to walk your dog. Thank you, council.

Car park concerns
To the astonishment and bewilderment of our Nowra CBD Car Parking Development Committee and others on November 22, the Joint Regional Planning Panel deferred council’s development application for the proposed Multi-Level All Day Car Park at the corner of Worrigee and Berry streets, Nowra.
“Astonishment” because council engineers and staff have been applying themselves without break to this very essential DA for at least 18 months, following five years of intense planning.
“Bewilderment” because the panel which comprised two unintroduced persons and one newly elected councillor, gave the impression that two of the panel didn’t appear greatly interested in the project, nor the process and were certainly uninvolved in its final recommendations. They did however remain awake long enough to vote on its deferral.
All the recommendations causing the deferral were voiced by one panel member who read these out from a pre-scripted series of notes. It caused no little consternation to the people, both council staff and public, who spent time and effort preparing submissions on the DA to the panel, to witness this peculiarly cavalier approach to the panel’s process. It was thought to that point that the panel would, in some way, retire to consider all factors prior to making its decision. Not so.
The DA isn’t deferred because of the complaints of people from the nearby Berry Court residential building, or because it was slightly higher than the code or it was too big or small, or too good for Nowra but because this seemingly sole arbiter of the pros and cons of the DA wants a lay-back of the building to preserve the very old trees in Worrigee Street and Lawrence Avenue.
Only in the last few weeks a line of very similar trees was removed from the same car park adjoining the Berry Court residential block.
Now that we have reached this perplexing point, some councillors and senior council staff might see this as a reason to “white ant” the project instead of encouraging immediate application to meet or even challenge the panel’s requirement due to further costs. Some councillors and very senior staff seem quite vocal and active in working to prevent the DA progressing.

Grant will make us cool
Recently The Sanctuary Point Men’s Shed received a grant from Veolia Mulwaree Trust. The grant is to fund the airconditioning systems for our new shed. Our most sincere gratitude goes to Veolia Mulwaree Trust for its ongoing support of the Sanctuary Point Men’s Shed. As well our members would like to thank Careda Air for its contribution to the construction of our new shed.
Our thanks and our best wishes for the Christmas period to every one in and outside our community for their support of our group.
A few weeks ago some of our members were at our Clifton Street site, our new home. Due to rain at the time our power pole had moved from its original position. With Dean, our electrician we began repositioning the post. On site it was 38 degrees that day. We were certainly feeling the heat when a woman pulled up with Esky in hand and began handing out soft drinks. Before we could properly thank her she was gone. For you, my lady, from past and present members a big thank you.
